Whilst these are &#8220;tried and true&#8221; they can easily be customized to meet the timeframe available, the skill levels of the attendees and any particular needs of the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Part 1<\/strong> is ideally presented as a two day course in which Day One is workshop based learning and Day Two is entirely made up of practical exercises.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst designed primarily for new Directors, many experienced Directors have enjoyed the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and often report having learned some new tricks and tips along the way.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Day One is also highly recommended for anyone who works with Directors, ie MD&#8217;s, Choreographers, Production Managers and Committee Members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Day 1 can be delivered as a stand alone course, and for smaller groups could still include some practical elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>DAY 1 Content (Open to all numbers)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The roles of the management team (Director, Musical Director, Choreographer, Production Manager etc)<\/li><li>What does a director actually do<\/li><li>Creating \u201cThe Vision\u201d (it&#8217;s not as hard as it seems!)<\/li><li>Responsibilities<\/li><li>Preserving the illusion<\/li><li>Selecting a show<\/li><li>Time table formulas<\/li><li>People<\/li><li>The rehearsal schedule <\/li><li>Preparing and meetings<\/li><li>HOD\u2019s<\/li><li>How to create \/ discuss lighting when you don\u2019t know anything about lighting!<\/li><li>Auditions \u2013 set up \u2013 what to look for \u2013 setting expectations<\/li><li>Rehearsals<\/li><li>Blocking &#8211; it&#8217;s a layering technique<\/li><li>Dealing with beginners and prima donna&#8217;s<\/li><li>Common directing errors<\/li><li>Dealing with Conflict<\/li><li>Plus a whole heap of other little bits and pieces and information<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>DAY 2 Content (Note numbers are strictly limited for day 2)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Practical exercise with participants directing each other using scripts and exercises provided the day before.&nbsp; A chance to put in place the learning\u2019s of the previous day.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An Introduction to Directing Musicals Part 2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a separate one day workshop which continues on from Part 1 and involves more advanced techniques for working with actors including exercises designed to help actors portray emotions.  <em>It also includes Lighting for Directors. <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parts 1 and 2 Over the last 20 years I have developed a series of workshops designed to upskill new and experienced attendees alike.
